Experience live wildlife, including an opossum release, and learn about owls, bats, and other nocturnal creatures in this interactive, family-friendly event.

Starlight in the Park: Family Fun, Campfire, & Holiday Cheer in Schuylerville, NY Hosted by Friends of Fort Hardy Park

Gather around the campfire for Starlight in the Park, a free, family-friendly event. Enjoy warm smiles, s’mores, and an illuminating scavenger hunt by the Hudson River as the sun sets. 

Hosted by the Friends of Fort Hardy Park in partnership with the Village of Schuylerville, this event will also be honoring Kate Morse, Executive Director of Hudson Crossing Park, as the second annual “Schuylerville Star”. This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding dedication to the Schuylerville community. 

Limited numbers of our 2024 edition Friends of Fort Hardy Park ornaments will be on sale at the event for $5.00 each. You can also buy one online now (shipping & taxes not included). All profits go directly to funding improvements in Fort Hardy Park.

Before night settles in, St. Nicholas plans on stopping by for the gazebo’s holiday lighting ceremony

Donations for the Schuylerville SAFER Food Pantry will be collected at the event. 

SAFER is looking for donations of non-food items including:

  • Soap

  • Shampoo

  • Deodorant

  • Toothpaste

  • Toothbrushes

  • Razors

  • Lotion

  • Lip balm

Any/all feminine hygiene products

First aid items including:

  • Bandages

  • Disinfectant wipes

Baby supplies including: 

  • Diapers

  • Wipes

  • Creams

Canned goods including: 

  • Spaghetti-O’s

  • Tomato soup

  • Chicken soup

Friends of Fort Hardy Park will have a tent set up behind the visitor's center in Fort Hardy Park selling apples & cider (from our friends at Saratoga Apple), baked goods, hot cocoa & more. Please stop by to see us!

FREE Mini Bale Maze

A mini bale maze for you and your little ones has been set up by Friends of Fort Hardy Park by the gazebo in Fort Hardy Park. This maze is FREE for all to enjoy through Halloween!

Big thanks to the generous donation from local businesses of hay from Schuyler Farms, and signs designed by Rebel Dragon Creative and printed by Custom Visual Retail Solutions.

  • DECEMBER 2024

    Gazebo Roof Renovation

    We were thrilled to help complete the renovation of a new roof for the beloved gazebo at Fort Hardy Park. This essential project is in memory of Theresa Wilson from her daughter, Amy Broz, as a testament to the enduring legacy of community and family.

    The roof replacement was expertly carried out by the skilled crew at Kornerstone Roofing, who braved frigid December temperatures to ensure that this cherished gathering spot, originally built in 1997 by Cianbro Construction, will continue to be a central part of Fort Hardy Park for years to come.

    Starlight in the Park

    On a very cold night, we gathered around the campfire for Starlight in the Park to enjoy warm smiles, s’mores, and an illuminating scavenger hunt by the Hudson River as the sun set and the full moon rose. 

    Hosted by the Friends of Fort Hardy Park in partnership with the Village of Schuylerville, this event also honored Kate Morse, Executive Director of Hudson Crossing Park, as the second annual “Schuylerville Star” for her outstanding dedication to the Schuylerville community.

    Our 2024 Friends of Fort Hardy Park ornament was released and St. Nicholas stopped by to collect donations for the Schuylerville SAFER Food Pantry before the gazebo’s holiday lighting ceremony.

    Trail Clean-up

    It was a great day to move the hay, pull out even more debris from the wooded areas, and clear more of the riverside trail. It was hard work made lighter with each Friend's helping hand.

    Revolutionary Run

    We proudly were among those at the11th Annual Saratoga County Veterans Trust Fund 5K Race and children’s Fun Run in Fort Hardy Park.

    The clouds and cold drizzle couldn't keep away the 200+ runners who gathered to support veterans in and event that kicked off with cannon fire and featured speeches by public officials and local Saratoga 250th Commission historians.

  • OCTOBER 2024

    Surrender Day

    We were on hand with the Saratoga 250 Commission to help distribute apple cider for toasting after speeches from local officials and students, a reenactment of the surrender, and a cannon firing demonstration.

    Siege Weekend

    Hosted by the Battles of Saratoga 250, we sold apples &cider (from our friends at Saratoga Apple), baked goods, hot cocoa & more at this multi-site event held on the NYS Path Through History weekend featuring living historians, artillery demonstrations, and fun activities for the whole family.

    OCTOBER 2024

    Scarecrow Stroll Mini Bale Maze

    A mini bale maze for you and your little ones was set up by the Friends of Fort Hardy Park near the gazebo in Fort Hardy Park as part of the 3rd annual Schuylerville Scarecrow Stroll. This maze was FREE for all to enjoy through Halloween and highlighted the Dogs of the Revolutionary War. By the Reds Road entrance, a scarecrow dog guards a caged kitty in a jovial autumn display.

    Saratoga Trail Fest

    In collaboration with Battles of Saratoga 250, Friends of Fort Hardy Park attended on Saratoga Trail Fest at Glenham Farm, in Saratoga Springs, celebrating Saratoga County's trails, the people who use them, and the communities they connect.

    It was great connecting with other local organizations with similar missions. Thank you to Saratoga Trails Alliance for having us!

    Dogs Days of Summer Market & Expo

    You brought your dog to the (future) site of the Schuylerville Dog Park and we had a blast at the Dog Days of Summer Market & Expo, held as part of Schuylerville’s 29th Annual Turning Point Festival and Hudson Crossing Park’s 18th Annual Cardboard Boat Races.

    This brand-new event included pup-approved vendors, a Cool Costume Contest, and a pet-centric entertainment area.

    Parade Participation

    Raised community awareness with Friends of Fort Hardy Park float in Schuylerville’s 29th Annual Turning Point Parade.

    The Turning Point Parade & Festival commemorates the American Victory at the Battle of Saratoga on October 17, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War.

    Park History Lesson

    Big thank you to our President Megin Potter for sharing a brief history of Fort Hardy Park with elementary and middle grade student participants in TNT Trekkers group.

    TnT Trekkers is a free outdoor adventure group in Schuylerville, New York that meets weekly on Wednesday mornings during July and August. The group was started by Loretta's Tomes & Tealeaves and is open to anyone who wants to build friendships and get closer to nature. Activities include hiking, playing, creating art, and learning. 

  • JUNE 2024

    Becoming More Bike Friendly

    Schuylerville Trail Town committee installed a bike rack donated by Hudson Crossing Park near the youth center in Fort Hardy Park.

    The Village of Schuylerville is part of the Empire State Trail Town program, which is a partnership between Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) and the New York State Canal Corporation.

    PTNY Canal Clean Sweep

    “Doggieville Hustle” – Local business sponsorships helped support volunteer cleanup efforts at Fort Hardy Park. Pulling out 125 bags of trash, 5 bags of leaves, and a twig pile that was 12 feet high, 43 feet long, and 32 feet wide!

    Thank you to every volunteer who came out on Earth Day to help us clean up and all of our 2024 local business sponsors for making it a great day!

    I Ruff Fort Hardy Park

    Between Valentine’s Day & Saratoga Chamber of Commerce Leap of Kindness Day, we had a lot of love to give. By making homemade dog treats and dog tags, we were able to raise money to help build our future dog park.

    Fort Hardy Park Earmarked for $1.85 million of $4.5 million NY Forward Grant Awarded to the Village of Schuylerville

    State funding for the construction of the Fort Hardy Park Community Center, Heritage Memorial Plaza, Open Air Pavilion, and related infrastructure.

    Starlight in the Park Event

    Cookies, hot cocoa, and a reading by Schuylerville Mayor Dan Carpenter of the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to honor the 200th Anniversary of its publication were followed by a star, gazebo, and small tree lighting. Megin Potter was awarded for her work with FFHP, and complimentary 2023 FFHP ornaments were available.
